Sergio Marchisio is a Full Professor of International Law and Space Law at La Sapienza University of Rome and Legal Expert, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 1997, Delegate to the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, where he served as Chairman of the Legal subcommittee (2004-2006). Since 2007, Chairman of the European Centre for Space Law (ECSL/ESA). Member of the Board of Directors of the International Institute for Space Law (IISL) and of the Advisory Council of the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI). In 2012, he was an appointed member of the Group of Governmental Experts (GGE) on Outer Space Transparency and Confidence-Building Measures (TCBMs) established by UNGA resolution 65/68. In July 2015, he chaired in New York the Multilateral Negotiations on the draft International Code of Conduct on Outer Space Activities (ICoC). Since 2014, member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Space Agency. Member of the Académie de l’air et de l’espace (AAE), and of the Chinese Academy of Astronautics. In 2016, he gave a special course on "Les activités spatiales internationales entre droit public et droit privé" at the Hague Academy of International Law.
